Yeovil Chess Club meets at the Red Cross Centre on a Wednesday evening beginning
at 7:30pm.
Players of any ability are welcome and we are always keen to see new members, so
please come along!

A Great End to the Season
After
the Somerset Cup victory came further excellent results as Yeovil won the Vice Presidents
East and Henry Powell leagues. The latter was achieved on the 24th April after a fine away win 4-2 at Sedgemoor.
Winners for Yeovil at Sedgemoor were Andrew Footner, Jim Fewkes, Colin Winch and
Colin Stanton.
Yeovil Win Somerset Cup!
Yeovil won a very tight
match against Trowbridge on Thursday 20th March to win the Somerset Cup by 4.5 to
3.5.
There were valiant draws on the two top boards as Andrew and Jim held their much
higher rated opponents, graded 198 and 168 respectively.
Roger and Darren secured wins on boards 3 and 4. Roger offered his very eperienced
opponent an enterprising piece sacrifice very early in a King's Gambit.
Kels and Mark tried desparately to hold their games but were unlucky while Colin
(Stanton) drew his.
A loss on board 7 would have meant Trowbridge would be victorious. However, Nigel
had a strong position which he duly converted to the full point sealing the win.
Well done Yeovil!
Semi Final Report
Yeovil won their semi final
match against old rivals Sedgemoor on 21st February by 5.5 - 2.5. The winners for Yeovil were 10 yr old Kells Stanton, Nigel Mills and Colin Winch.
Andrew Footner, Jim Fewkes, Roger Knight, Darren Freeman and Colin Stanton all drew
their games.
The final will be on Thursday 20th March against Trowbridge who won their semi final
against Weston-Super-Mare 5-3. |
